Since 1990, the Peaceful Dragon School has offered year-round programs in the traditional Chinese Health Arts of Tai Chi (Yang Style – Short Form) and Qigong (Energy Work) for adults and youth. Day and evening classes, practice sessions, private sessions, and intensives are available. In addition to our collaborative relationship with the Ann Arbor Rec and Ed and the University of Michigan, allows local students and visitors from out of town fit classes into their schedule. The main objective at the Peaceful Dragon School is to create a safe, open minded, respectful, peaceful, and conscious attitude and atmosphere in which to study these complementary health promoting art-forms. Aligning beautifully with your primary care physician’s guidance, classes at the Peaceful Dragon School can become a part of your health team and assist you in meeting the self-care practice goals you desire. Instructors
The instructors at the Peaceful Dragon School are professionally trained and certified by Master Young. We teach using many learning methods; for example: visual, lecture, demonstration, hands-on, supervised practices, and most importantly, humor. Class sizes are limited and range from 4 to 20 students. This allows for more individualized attention and inspired learning. We also provide instructional videos, books, and other learning materials, as well as a Facebook presence to enhance your learning experience at the Peaceful Dragon School and abroad.
Wasentha Young
Master Young teaches Tai Chi and Qigong classes as well as students who have finished learning the Tai Chi form. She is also known to pop in on classes taught by other instructors at the school as an opportunity for all students to study under her tutelage.
Wasentha Young is a Master and scholar in the art of T’ai Chi Ch’uan and Chi Kung – Qigong, has received formal instruction in Taoist and Buddhist meditation, is certified in Acupressure and Wellness Counseling in Mind/Body Consciousness, and holds a Masters degree in Transpersonal Studies.
She has developed stress reduction programs for individuals, corporations, health institutions, religious organizations, and research projects.
A practitioner since 1968, she lectures and educates nationally on Tai Chi, Qigong, and Meditation as it relates to the human emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being at:Omega Institute,Institute for Transpersonal Psychology, CA., National Qigong Association, National Institute for the Clinical Application of Behavioral Medicine, University of Michigan, UAW, Kaiser Wellness Foundation, CA., National Foundation of Women Martial Artists.
Originally a student of Grandmaster William C.C. Chen and under the tutelage of prominent instructors of Professor Cheng Man-ching’s, she is the founding board member of the Association of Women Martial Arts Instructors, nationally published and is known for her teaching abilities and integrative communication skills.
Privately, Master Young has taught individuals including CEOs, sport professionals, clients with fibro-myalgia, MS, Muscular Dystrophy, visual impairment, degenerative arthritic disease, hypertension, high blood pressure, degenerative health conditions, and cancer survivors.
Junko Powell has been a practitioner under Master Youngs tutelage for 12 years. She teaches Tai Chi and Qigong Beginners. In addition her language skills has added deeper understanding for students and Master Young as to the meaning of the characters which describe the movements and concepts.
